Disclaimer: Always seek the advice of your physician before starting or altering any exercise or dietary plan. Exercise. The one thing most people who are dieting or just trying to improve their health hate. The good part about it, you don’t have to become a gym rat in order to see the benefits of just 150 minutes a week or just over 20 minutes a day. Here are 5 main benefits of including exercise into your weight loss or healthy living journey. 1. Helps with weight loss: Exercise in association with a lower caloric diet will increase your metabolic rate which in turn will burn more calories. If you are able to drop your caloric intake and exercise enough to burn off 500 calories a day then in a week you would lose one pound. Most would say only a pound, but if you were to do that for a year then you would lose 52 pounds and that is a great number. 2. Good for memory and brain health: Exercise increases the heart rate which in turn increases the blood flow to the brain, it also is known to stimulate the production of hormones that can enhance the growth of brain cells. This can be extremely important as we get older, when brain functions are known to decrease. A proper diet and exercise can slow this process. 3. Improves your muscles and bones: Exercise causes the release of hormones than allow your muscles to absorb amino acids, therefore helping them grow or not deteriorate. Exercise also promotes build bone density in younger people and helps prevent osteoporosis when we get older.
4. Helps with sleep: Studies have shown that the inclusion of exercise into a person’s weekly schedule can dramatically increase the quality of sleep a person gets. I myself have found that since I have changed my diet and have been exercising for about 45 minutes a day that I have been able to sleep without taking sleeping medication and have had much better sleep quality then I had before. 5. Promotes Happiness: Those of you who have been athletes or have exercised for a while will really understand what I mean by this. Nothing feels better than having a good workout and doing better than you have before, or the next day when you just have that little pep in your step because your body feels good from that workout you had the day before. All this being said, ensure to start out slow when you start exercising, don’t try to go beyond your limits. If it is only walking for 15 minutes the first day then that is great, try for 20 minutes the next time. In time you will see the benefits from exercise and be enjoying your healthier lifestyle. Just remember: It takes 4 weeks for you to see your body changing It takes 8 weeks for your friends and family It takes 12 weeks for the rest of the world. Never give up, your body will thank you.
