We see all the time these new fad liquid diets that can supposedly help you lose weight quick. The fact is, is that if you change your fluid intake from a sugary drink to any other source like tea, water or even a fruit infused water like lemon water the you will decrease the number of calories that you are putting into your body. Although lemon water is not a zero calorie drink it is very low in calories, approximately 11 calories for a half a lemon and can give you some other great benefits.
Benefits from drinking lemon water: Great for your immune system: Packed with Vitamin C, lemon can help increase your body’s immune system. A half a lemon can contain as much as 65% of your recommended daily intake. Source of Potassium and Folate: Although not very high, about 2% of Potassium and 3% of folate, it is a source of these necessary minerals. Cleanses your system: Lemon water can help in flushing toxins out of your system. Water in general can do the same thing. Aids in your digestion: Lemon is known to help your digestive tract and is also known to help relieve symptoms such as indigestion, heartburn and gas. Can help you lose weight: As in the introduction to this post, changing what you drink daily can make a huge difference in your caloric intake. Maintains digestive heath: A glass of warm lemon water first thing in the morning can help in kick starting your digestive system for the day. Try drinking a glass of warm lemon juice half an hour before your breakfast. Helps freshen your breath: A natural breath freshener, lemon juice can help in getting rid of bacteria from your mouth and gums. How to make lemon water Simple and easy just squeeze half a lemon into a cup of water. You can also add different fruits and spices to get the flavour you desire. Try adding mint or even turmeric. Precautions Lemon water is acidic and can wear away the enamel on your teeth. We would suggest that you drink your lemon water through a straw so that it doesn’t spend as much time on your teeth and to ensure that you rinse your mouth out with water after you are finished and refrain from brushing your teeth for at least one hour.
